Engineering Scholarships at University of Canterbury

The University of Canterbury College of Engineering is offering eighteen scholarships for Intermediate Year students in 2009. The scholarships are available to students entering Engineering Intermediate Year and will be awarded on the basis of candidates’ commitment to engineering, academic achievement and extracurricular participation and achievements.

Canterbury Engineering Scholars The Canterbury Engineering Scholars will each receive awards worth $1,000. The awards are tenable for 2009 only and will be paid at the beginning of the academic year when the recipients are granted entry into Engineering Intermediate Year.

Eligibility

The scholarships are available to students who will begin a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) degree in 2009. Applicants must be New Zealand citizens or permanent residents. Winners of the scholarships must enrol full time in the Engineering Intermediate Year at the University of Canterbury. The scholarships are not available to direct entry students. A Canterbury Engineering Scholarship may be held with any other award or grant, provided the rules of such awards allow this. Selection
The most important selection criteria are:

• Demonstrated engineering commitment/ interest
• Academic ability (based on Year 12 NCEA or equivalent)
• Cultural and sporting participation and achievements
• Community service
• General character

Applications should be made on the attached application form and must be received by the Scholarships Office no later than 1 November 2008.
