The PhD project is an intrinsic part of the major research theme of the laboratory and will be focused on quantitative description of the effects of molecular environment on ligand-receptor bonds. In particular, the effect of contact time between the reactive partners on the probability of bond formation and its resistance will be studied in details. The work will also include technical development to couple the laminar flow chamber with advanced optical microscopy. The design and making of controlled reactive surfaces will be undertaken in collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Center of Nanosciences in Marseille (CiNAM). The candidate should preferentially be a physicist or a biophysicist, who is interested to work at interface of physics and biology, is open to both experimental and modelling approaches and is ready to work in a multidisciplinary team.
Conditions of application: to have obtained a master degree in 2008 and be less than 25 years old.

The student will work in close collaboration with researchers and engineers from the Gemo-IASI group of INRIA Saclay/University of Paris XI. The work involves designing, analyzing, and deploying algorithms and methods for efficient processing of queries over XML and semantic (RDF) content in large-scale distributed warehouses. We are particularly interested in peer-to-peer (P2P) settings, as this work builds on our previous experience and prototypes for P2P data and knowledge management.

The ideal candidate must:
- have successfully earned a MS degree in computer science
- be very knowledgeable in data management and/or knowledge management
- have good programming skills as attested by previous development projects (Java or C/C++)
- have good command of spoken and written English

Good knowledge of the following topics are a plus:
- XML, XQuery, Web services
- OWL, RDF and RDF-S
- database performance, optimization, tuning

The salary is 1500 Euros/month (net) for the first two years and
