2009 Dermatologic Surgery Cutting Edge Research Grant Program – Scientist Award

Applications are now being sought for the 2009 Cutting Edge Research Grant Program. This year, financial support for the CERG Program has been increased to $100,000 to allow for a greater number of individual, well-conceived proposals to be funded. Grants ranging from $5,000 – $20,000 will be awarded in order to stimulate a broad scope of research relevant to dermatologic surgeons and the dermatology specialty at-large.

• $100,000 in grants to be presented in 2009
• Awards ranging from $5,000 to $20,000
• New “call for research” component on Board-directed socioeconomic topics
• Awards will be announced at the 2009 ASDS Annual Meeting, October 1 – 4 in Phoenix, AZ

Besides increased funding, the program has been expanded to include a first-ever “call for research” based on specific, Board-directed socioeconomic topics to demonstrate our depth of training, scope of practice, safety record, efficacy and similar issues (please see the full list below). We specifically encourage ASDS members to submit proposals in these areas, as well as clinical research with specific relevance in:

• Aesthetic Medicine and Surgery
• Core Surgical Procedures and Techniques
• Cutaneous Oncology
• New Technologies

[US] Clinical Research in Periodontology from AADR William B. Clark Fellowship 2009

The American Association for Dental Research is inviting applications from investigators for a sponsored award in clinical research in periodontology. The fellowship is in memory of William B. Clark, the late Professor of Oral Biology and Director of the Periodontal Research Center at the University of Florida.

Eligibility:

Applicants must have completed their first professional degree. The applicant should be appointed at an accredited dental school or academic research center in the United States. Applicants must be US citizens or permanent residents of the US, and members of the AADR.

Applications:

Applicants must submit the following:

letter stating their interest in applying for the award
3-4-page (double-spaced) overview of their proposed areas of training, including how the experience will affect future research to be conducted by the applicant
brief description of the facility which will provide the training
letter of support from the proposed mentor must be included

Research Topic:

Submissions must include a plan to gain expertise in clinical research in an established laboratory. The training plan may be of 3 weeks’ to 3 months’ duration and should allow the successful applicant to learn state-of-the-art methodology related to clinical periodontal research. The applicant may also describe a research project using the methodology in the field of oral health. After the training is completed, the applicant will be expected to submit a brief report to the AADR, outlining the benefits derived from the training.

Award:

One award in the amount of $5,000 will be made. This award is intended to provide travel and other support related to training during the fellowship period.

NACME Scholars Block Grant Program Scholarship Available for Spring 2010! Award: Up to $2,500 annually for up to 5 years (total of funds awarded from any form of state, federal, institutional and private scholarships, loans and grants may not exceed the cost of attendance to UTSA).

Eligibility Requirements:

Undergraduate students pursuing an engineering degree at UTSA.
Registered for a minimum of 12 semester credit hours.
First year students must have a minimum GPA of 2.50. Students in their second or third year must be at least 2.6, fourth year students must achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.8.

The Mayor’s Commission on People with Disabilities of Philadelphia works to ensure that the disability community has a voice in City Government and receives equity in City services. Other goals include the elimination of all types of barriers (attitudinal, architectural, communication and programmatic), combating prejudice and discrimination and promoting disability awareness. The Commission believes all people have the right to equal access to opportunity.

The Scholarship Fund for Students with Disabilities was established by the Mayor’s Commission to provide financial assistance to students who are pursuing post-secondary education or training. Winters Memorial Scholarship are requested from U.S. Marine Corps men and women who are currently on active duty, in the reserves or honorably discharged veterans. US Military Scholarship from E.E. Mixon Second Dragoon Foundation

This program is open to former members of the Second Cavalry Regiment and the children of current or former members. Members of other Army units and their children may also be considered, especially if they have a previous connection with the Second Cavalry Regiment or other U.S. Cavalry Regiments. Applicants must submit a 500-word essay on 1 of the following topics: 1) how our military presence in Europe contributed to the end of the Cold War; 2) the role of the non-commissioned officer corps in the U.S. military; or 3) what America means to them. They must be attending or planning to attend a college or university. Selection is based on the essay and a statement of their educational goals, projected or current field of study, and personal or family affiliation with a cavalry unit.
